PS…Warning. If you happen to randomly stumbled upon this blog/ site or whatever you call it… I have not proof read or edited it! I have simply done a first draft/brain dump. Once I have completed that step, I’ll come back and clean things up.  So don’t rip it apart too much at first read!! Thanks :)

All 50 States and D.C.

_
I am not the type of person who sets traveling goals. i.e; " I will visit all 50 states by such and such date." Unlike my sister who had a goal of visiting all 50 states by her 21st birthday and did it, I take a relaxed approach with traveling and enjoy the process. Yet once I got close to seeing the last few states, I decided to make a list and cross it off by visiting all 50 states sooner rather than later!

_
The following entries are pictures and stories of my visits to all 5o states! Many of the states I went to as a child but I didn't take a photo during my time there. It wasn't a big deal to do that back then. I have found a few photos from my parent's collection though; yep, retro! I will be posting the states in reversealphabetical order, not in chronological order from my first visit. Hawaii was my last state to see and Nebraska was my first, as it was the state I was born in. Much like life, it’s a journey that is all over the place, but it's been quite the ride. ENJOY!

D.C.

_
The first time I visited D.C I was so impressed. I really loved seeing the sights of our US capital. My sister had moved there (2017) prior to my first visit. I arrived late in the evening, but she wouldn’t be back home until the next morning. It was fun navigating my way from the Dulles International Airport, taking the metro into the hub of the city, Union Station and then making a 1o min walk to her row house on Capital Hill. Everything was idyllic. The next few days were filled with walking everywhere, the best way to see a city (in my personal opinion). I was in awe of the buildings and all the history in general. I remember my dad saying this was one of his favorite cities and he really wanted to take our family there one day. While that didn’t happen, I couldn’t help but think of him throughout my visit when seeing the historical sights.
The first time seeing the Capital building, the White House, the Lincoln Memorial or even walking on the mall (I finally know what the “mall” is) it truly is something else! As a Christian I think everyone should go to Israel at least once in their life time. If you are an American, I feel the same about D.C.

I have been back many times since, visiting my sister and also spending some time with her during a period of “lock-down” in the spring of 2020. With each visit it was always an impressive city to come into, but I could never live there! So many A-types vying for the top and you can almost feel everyone’s stress levels grinding at their souls.

I always love going back to visit since there are a few memorials I haven’t seen yet. And if you go, bring your walking shoes and American pride. It’s a must!

Wyoming #50

_
When I was 14 I drove to Canada with some family friends and we drove through Wyoming for my first time. There wasn’t much to see or do through this “drive through state,” but I loved the open vastness. I would love to spend more time there to actually SEE something next visit. I drove through the state another time on my own, once again driving to and back from Canada. Between Montana and Wyoming there is enough drive time to do a lot of thinking about life!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Wisconsin #49

_
I can’t actually remember my first visit to this state, but this time I spent more than a few hours in Wisconsin. I was house/ pet sitting for one week in the cold silent winter. It was precisely what my soul needed. I longed to have some quiet space to grieve my dad’s death from earlier that summer. I had spent a lot of time traveling during the fall, which was also helpful for the healing process, but was something different that I needed. I read a lot, journaled a lot, went on a lot of walks, wrote a lot of letters and of course, I cried a lot. While I wouldn’t say this was the most glamorous or exciting visit, I hold deep gratitude in my heart when I think of Wisconsin or see photo’s from that trip. As I write this entry, in two days it will be the 7th anniversary of my dad’s passing. Today, I was ready to write about Wisconsin.

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

West Virginia #48

_
This has mostly been a drive through state, coming or going to D.C to visit my sister or eventually moving her out of D.C. There is something so beautiful in these dense trees, curvy highways and also causing some claustrophobic feelings! Being from Colorado in the open vastness, a place like West Virginia can do that to you. I would love to come back and visit some of the historical sights. On this venture my mom, sister and I were making a quick trip back to Colorado. driving through the night as you can see by the time stamp on the photo. Always an adventure with my mom or sister, or both! I love it!!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Washington #47

_
The 2nd time I went to Washington State I drove there to see my friend Rebecca. I also had plans to drive up to Canada to see my friend Amber and her family while “summer-ing” it up at their beach cabin along the Vancouver Islands. However, I forgot my passport. I spent some lovely extra days with Rebecca before flying down to Vegas for a conference. I have since returned to Washington, specifically Seattle, for a few more conferences. During those trips I was able to do a bit more sight seeing. I went to Pike Market, visited the first Starbucks and went up the Space Needle. I really loved the Bellevue, Washington area. I’ve heard it’s a pretty pricey area to live. I guess I have expensive taste?? Anyways, a lovely state as well as the coast line, which I did on another trip. I think Washington and Minnesota “were” my top states to move to, but they have changed a lot in recent years.

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Virginia #46

_
Virginia is such a lovely state with much history. Although, I can’t say I’ve seen much of the history as of yet. My sister moved to Virginia Beach to go to college, so many of my trips were to visit her . I especially enjoyed my trip out there during her graduation! We spent some extra time at the beach as well. I will never forget the time I was visiting her and the flights out of Norfolk were so pricey. I found something very responsible out of DC, a few hours away. It was an early morning flight and since we were new to the route, we left before midnight. We had quite an adventure getting to DC, seeing DC for the first time and catching a few z’s at a random hotel parking lot. I love knowing my adventures with my sister in this state. :)

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Vermont #45

_
In many ways I found that Vermont reminded me a lot of Colorado. The city of Bolder more specifically, yet way more hippy. I stopped at a large farmers market in Brattleboro and that was the place to be based on all the local people there! All in all it was was a beautiful area, but more on the “natural-earthy” side if you know what I mean. I found an old covered bridge to take a photo under, as you see below. The drive was nice, but I didn’t stay very long in the area. I think Vermont would be a lovely place to visit in the winter snow at some cabin in the woods.

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Utah #44

_
The very first time I visited Utah I’m pretty sure I was on a long road trip out west coast; Washington, Canada and beyond. My newly married friend, Alisha recently moved there with her husband and they we’re stationed at the Air Force base. I was able to crash her place as she and I were able to spend some quality time together. We hiked around Salt Lake and saw some wild animals. Since I don’t particularly like to taking photos of myself, this is me being goofy of course! I went back through Utah in 2019 on another road trip with my sister heading west again, and Ireally enjoyed more hiking, coffee shops and the salt flats! I like this state.

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Texas #43

_
In 2003 my sister, mom and I drove to Texas. My mom went to a conference in Dallas and my sister, Laura and I went down to the coast in Galveston and made it a sister’s get away! This was the first trip we did on our own (20 and 10 years old respectively) and it would be the start of many more trips together to come! We stayed at the Best Western hotel 2 blocks away from the ocean, ate at Joe’s Crab Shack (classy), swam in the hotel pool and at sea as well as walked the boardwalk in the evenings. I have been to Texas too many times to count now, but my first trip was one to remember! After a few days  Galveston, we joined our mom at the conference and that too was a start to a new path in my life. It’s easy to say the state of Texas means a lot to me! I’ve met a lot of people there and even thought about moving there a time or two (Dallas). Texas is a good state 👍

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Tennessee #42

_
I’m pretty sure my first trip to Tennessee was when I was younger and babysitting a family of3 young children while they were at an Amway conference. This was before it was”normal” to take photos for everything! My next trip through TN as on a road trip to Florida with my mom and sister (catching a theme here)!? We drove by a few key spots in Nashville and that is where I took this photo of Luke Bryan and I  ;) I’ve been to Nashville and the surrounding areas a few more times and I tried a few music bars on Broadway and I visited a few ministries and business I support. More recently flew into Knoxville and drove to Charlotte, NC. I could see myself living in this state. I like Tennessee!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

South Dakoda #41

_
After a trip with some family friends to Canada, who were Canadian, they were unable to come back to the US at that time. So my mom drove all the way to pick up my sister Laura and I. On the way home we were able to make some cool stops and one of them being to Mt. Rushmore in South Dakota! I was in awe of this place. The size and the history was something else. Something every American should see once in their life time.

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

South Carolina #40

_
On our "sister's southern road trip" my sister and I drove north-east, close to the shore line as possible, going through Charleston and eventually making our way to Myrtle Beach where we spent a nice relaxing day at the beach. I love taking silhouette dancing-jumping pictures, so we took a bunch of photos outside of Charleston, but we were getting eaten' alive! So we hopped back in the car, grabbed a coffee and kept on driving!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Rhode Island #39

_
Rhode Island was a “drive through” state for me as I was aiming to hit the last few states to complete visiting all 50 states. I had some time to stop at the state capital, but being late at night, I wasn’t able to go in. The way it lights up at night is still pretty cool though! Once again, I need to come back a do some exploring to this little state :-)

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Pennsylvania #38

_
During my 30th birthday trip to New York, my mom, sister and I made a quick day trip to Philadelphia. We saw some historical sites that included; the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and a Philadelphia cheesesteak sandwich! I loved all the historical places see saw and drove by. I have since been to Pennsylvania many times, but to the “Amish-mennonite” areas of Lancaster county. I specifically love the towns of Honey Brook and Intercourse. The green rolling hills thereare some of the most peaceful and picturesque spots, in my opinion.

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Oregon #37

_
In 2003 my mom, sister and I made a trip up to Canada, and then down the west coast with the final destination southern California. Years before, I had seen a large photo print in a gallery of a place called, Pistol Point. It was located along the southern coast of Oregon. I had it in my mind I would love see it with my own eyes and on this trip I did! Again, I didn’t often take pictures of myself so this photo is not by Pistol Point, but another spot along the Oregon coast. Such a beautiful drive down the 101. I highly recommend it!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Oklahoma #36

_
Sorry Oklahoma, I don’t have any landscape photos of you! I have been through this state so many times, but I never stayed until I visited my long time friend who lives outside of Oklahoma City. Laura and I have known each other since young kids and then wegot to know each other better during basketball and youth camps in middle school. So to me, Oklahoma is Laura, and thus aphoto of she and I together for this post ;)

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Ohio #35

_
The first time I can recall staying in Ohio with my sister at her friends family home in 2018, on our southern road trip. We were only staying for a night. My sister did some sight seeing, but I was warn out from a lot of driving the pervious few days and so I mostly just slept through Ohio!
I have a fain’t memory that I was in Ohio when I was around 8 or 9 years old, but I’d have to ask my mom about that and I’m guessing she wouldn’t remember either!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

North Dakota #34

_
I’m pretty sure this picture was takenin North Dakota in 1997. I was on my way home form Canada with my mom and sister after being stuck there for about week longer than planned. But sometimes unplanned trips turn out to be the best!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

North Carolina #33

_
My first time in North Carolina with my sister was a hoot! We left Myrtle Beach and took all the back roads it seemed to my friend Alisha's place near Fayetteville, NC, (Yes, the same friend that lived in Utah at one point). We saw ALL the Presbyterian and Baptist churches on every street corner and counted ALL the wreaths on every door, on every home. Who knew these were such a thing in the south? We found a random county fair and of course we went to it! We loved it. I have since been to North Carolina a few more times, specifically the Charlotte area and I even considered moving there. It didn't happen, at least not yet.

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

New York #32

_
My mom and I flew out to visited my sister, who was living in New Jersey at the time, for Christmas, my birthday and New Years. We stayed in NJ for a few days and then went to stay at an Airbnb on Statin Island for a few more days. We took the farry into New York City and had our adventures; Central Park, Financial District (World Trade Center) and of course Time Square for New Years Eve (never again)! I’m glad I checked out thecity, but it’s too crazy for me. I’ve been back, but mostly just to visit my friend Jess and to get from point a to point b. Everyone should visit New York City once, but then go see other parts of the state. Up- state New York area is one of my favorite parts of the country! My top 3.

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

New Mexico #31

_
I have driven through New Mexico many times, but mostly on my way to Dallas, Texas. This time, prior to leaving Colorado, I decided I wanted to visit a volcano that I would always see from the road as I drove by! It’s called the Capulin Volcano and it’s a National Monument I guess. This trip my mom and sister were with me as well. Once we arrived, we made the short hike up to the rim of the inactive top. You could see a long way. Probably as far as the bordering states in any direction. There is not much to see other than the landscape, but I’m glad I at least went!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

New Jersey #30

_
During my trip to New Jersey we HAD to visit Carlo’s Bake Shop, right? It was my 30th birthday and it seemed a perfect way to celebrate it! We stood in line for too many hours and we were also the last ones before they locked the doors for the night. Afterwards we went out to eat at this old and perfect Italian Restaurant (so good) and had my cake. Outside of it being a really chilly day, it was perfect and I felt so loved! I also enjoyed visiting the town and university of Princeton. I’ve been back to New Jersey to visit my cousin and her family when they lived there and went to a few social (media) events.

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

New Hampshire #29

_
Unfortunately New Hampshire was another one of those drive-through states. It’s kind of hard not to be when you’re so small! I would enjoy coming back to New Hampshire to spend some time exploring, to “live free and not die”!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Nevada #28

_
I was 20 years old when I flew to Nevada, Las Vegas specifically, for a personal development conference I was attending. I don’t particularly like a lot of things in Las Vegas, but, I did enjoy the food, walks/ hikes exploring the area with my friends, sitting out by the pool, our hotel in general and The Bellagio Hotel water show! Regarding the photo below, I am celebrating after a challenge I had been commissioned to do; ask a guy on a date. I end up getting two. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas? Just kidding. Nothing happened. It was a dumb challenge my opinion. I have been back a few more times and in 2020 I drove through the state on my way to California with my sister. We stayed in my new favorite place, Lake Tahoe! So beautiful, highly recommend it more than Las Vegas :)

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Nebraska #27

_
Nebraska, the state I was born in and were I spent the majority of my first 13 years of life (aside from the short time I lived in Mississippi). I love the childhood I had there. From my 58th street friends, to my paper route, exploring Benso,n; drug stores, library, Louise Market and going to the post office or errands for my mom. I lived in 6 houses in Omaha and this house (in the photo) was my favorite. I think age 8-12 was my favorite with so much exploring and freedom! I would ride my bike for hours and no-one would have a clue where I wasor little real concern. I developed much of who I am today from that wonderful season of life. Nebraska, a place I first called “home”.

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Montana #26

_
Montana, a drive through state for me. The first time I drive through here was on my way to Canada with my family friends and my sister Laura back in 1997. I’m pretty sure this was the state that we almost ran out of gas. We literally were going “putt-putt” as the van died on the exit and we rolled into the gas station. We might have had to push the van a bit to the pump. It was a true testament of God taking care of us as we should have ran dry many miles ago on the side of the road. But now we made it and have a story to tell about it!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Missouri #25

_
Many of my family members love the St. Louis Cardinal's. So naturally when I was little my family and I took a family vacation to the great state of Missouri! I'm sure my dad had a soft ball tournament in the area which is probably what really brought us there. We went up the Arch and of course we visited the Anheuser Bush Stadium (as pictured below). I am standing here in the dugout trying to be cool, but at 6 or 7 years old, with jelly shoes and an outfit my mom sewed me and being an 80's kid, OF COURSE I'm cool! I have been to Missouri many more times and in fact, I have lived there for short periods of my adult life and I am currently living there now. Well, Colorado and Missouri are both my homes. Go Cardinal's!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Mississippi #24

_
My family moved here when my dad received a new job opportunity and I was 3 years old. I only have 2 memories of our time there since we didn’t live there very long.

It was raining pretty heavily during a warm season and my dad was grilling baloney outside. Yes, grilled baloney! I took this yummy “treat”, sat on the curb, placed my feet in the streams of water that went down the road and fully enjoyed myself! I found out later that our family didn’t have much money at that time, but I didn’t know any better. I was happy and fully able to be a child. I had a roof over my head, a warm bed to sleep in, a family that loved me and grilled baloney to eat!

The only other memory I have is standing by the front door crying as my mom left and I couldn’t go with her this time. It’s hard not being with your mom 24 hours a day when you’re only 3 years old!

When I was older I drove through Mississippi/Tennessee and drove by Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley. Who knew I lived so close to his once home when I lived in Southaven, Mississippi in the 80’s.

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Minnesota #23

_
I was probably a baby first time I went to Minnesota. My parents lived there in the late 70's and it is where my two older brothers were born. I have since come to love this state as I have met many friends over the years who are from there. I would spend many days visiting my cousins in southern MN and with friends in the northern Twin Cites area. Then in 2014 I moved to Minnesota for a time. First to New Ulm and then up to Minneapolis. I loved meeting new people, spending time on the lakes and discovering new areas especially by walking it. I even enjoyed going to spots where my parents lived years ago! I have a very fond place in my heart for Minnesota. You never know, I could move back some day!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Michigan #22

_
My sister and were in Chicago, Illinois and I told her I had never been to Michigan, so we took part of the day and explored a few towns and shores along the western part of the state. Over all I found the state to have a calming effect on me. At least the area I was at. I'm not sure if that's how it would be in the winter time or in other areas, but I enjoyed the short time I was there! But maybe there is a personal connection as parts of my name mean pure (2 times). Welcome to “Pure” Michigan!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Massachusetts #21

_
There is so much to see in Massachusetts! I drove down some of the oldest streets, of course drove by Fenway Park and walked around the campus’ of Harvard University and MIT (as picture below). The city of Boston is hard to get around with it's population and infustructure. I wanted more time to pop in to an old bookstore or eat at the oldest resturate, but that will have to wait untilnext time!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Maryland #20

_
The first time I was in Maryland I flew into Baltimore and took a train into D.C to visit my sister. A year later I was visiting her again and a bunch of us went to a lake house for a July 4th weekend celebration in Easton, MD. We stayed at her friends beautiful place as we used the kayaks, pool and lounged around all weekend! I wish I knew how to sail a boat, as there were plenty in the area. Maybe next time!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Maine #19

_
I really liked driving through Maine! Just the coastal area was something very different for me since I have spent more time on the west coast up to this point. I was also intrigued by all the light houses as well. The older quaint towns, with the perfect spots to eat or B&B's to stay at al looked so idyllic. I would love to drive up tp visit the north part of Maine in the future. I did get a lobster roll as suggested by my sister. I liked it, but I didn't love it. Don't tell her!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Louisiana #18

_
The first time I went to Louisiana I drove down with my mom for a conference in New Orleans. It was fun to walk around the French Quarter, grab some beignets and coffee! During this particular trip I met my friend Christina. It was fun to learn about each other and walk along the river (she is one of those friends from the great state of Minnesota, although she now lives in Wisconsin). It was such a different experience driving through Louisiana. Such a unique culture and demographic. I’m not sure it’s my vibe, but I’m glad I’ve seen this part of the country!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Kentucky #17

_
My sister and I drove from Florida to Iowa and eventually back to Colorado. We went through many states that I lovingly called this our “Southern sister’s road trip”. During this long trip we stayed with friends, tented at campgrounds and even slept in our car at random Walmart parking lots. On this particular morning we got up early to hit the road, but I was so enamored with the landscape that I took so many photos! The rolling hills, the green pastures, white picket fences and horses grazing easily made Kentucky one of my favorite states. Can I go back please!?

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Kansas #16

_
The first time I recall going to Kansas was with my parents for a conference at the Crown Plaza hotel. I would have been only 10 years old and babysitting my little who was under a year old. I was a responsible kid, but I’m sure I got some looks with walking her everywhere with the stroller, but my parents were never too far away.
Later in life I would come back to Kansas City with my sister but for different type of conference, One Thing with IHOP and Mike Bickle. I have come back so many times and have called this place home, along with Missouri since they border each other. I believe this photo was taken just after midnight on New Years even in 2016.

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Iowa #15

_
Iowa, a place that is more known to me than my birth state. My dad was born there and met my mom when she and her family moved back to Iowa in 1967. There is something about Iowa that says “home” to me, yet I’ve never longed to live there in a permanent sense. Whenever I see an “Iowa” sweatshirt or out-of-state license plates, I immediately want to meet whoever hales from Iowa. My roots, my history and my family are connected to Iowa, therefore I am part of Iowa.
Go Iowa…Hawkeyes!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Indiana #14

_
I can’t remember the first time I went to Indian, but I’m sure it was when I was younger and with my family. This photo was taken just outside of Evansville, the southern part. I have spent some time outside of Indianapolis where my friend Cristiana got married (Zionsville is one of the cutest town ever) and Fort Wayne with another family friends. It’s so wonderful to know so many people all over the US (and the world)!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Illinois #13

_
I’m pretty sure the first time I went to Illinois was with my parents at an Amway convention, but I was too little to do any exploring on my own. Years later I went to another conference in the heart of Chicago, but again there was no time for exploring. It wasn’t until later on with my sister that we finally did some sightseeing, specifically in the Chicago area. Although, I will tell you, driving over the Mississippi River from St. Louis into southern Illinois is one of my favorite parts of Illinois, the county really. It’s some of the most beautiful farm land that is so picturesque and peaceful. It sounds silly, but I would love to do a weekend get away to that area!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Idaho #12

_
I drove through this beautiful state for the first time when I drove to Canada with family friends back in 1997. I remember thinking this is a place I want to come back to soon. I drove through it again driving to Seattle, WA,once again on my way to Canada (which didn’t happen as I forgot my all important passport). I love what little of Idaho I did see and it’s my top place I’d move to as it reminds me of Colorado but more green and moody.

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Hawaii #11
_
This was my last and final state to visit and so it seemed appropriate to commemorate this occasion by jumping out of an airplane. I WENT SKI-DIVING!

For the last 15 years or so, I had ski-diving on my informal wish list. Does that make it a bucket list then? I almost went with some friends in Vegas when I was 2o, but the timing didn't work out as I was flying out (of Vegas-to Canada) on the same day they all were planning on jumping. It all turned out for the best as I was able to share this experience with my sister in HAWAII…of all places! Sometimes good things DO come to those who wait ☺️

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Georgia #10
_
After leaving Florida on our "sister's southern road trip" Georgia was our next stop. And that meant we had to get some peaches! We found a random road side stand, bought and ate peaches, thus fulfilling our "country song" dreams! The night before we tented at a camp ground, but I can't remember if it was in still in Florida or if we had crossed over the state line into Georgia. We did a lot of back road driving, country radio listing and car windows down. By that evening we made it to Savannah and spent some time walking around the downtown area which is such a pretty city. All in all, we had a blast in Georgia!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Florida #9
_
The first time I was in Florida was a day before boarding a cruise ship in Fort Lauderdale for the Bahamas, which was mostly spent at a conference. A few years later my mom, sister and I drove from Colorado to Florida and stayed in Orlando. I’ve since been back to Orlando, went to Miami, South Beach and surrounding areas. Of course we visited Universal Studios and another theme park, which I can’t think of the name of right now. I would love to visit Sarasota, Clearwater and Naples in the future!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Delaware #8
_
Unfortunately I didn't do anything exciting in this state. My mom, my sister and I were literally driving through just to get to another state, but it still counts, right?! I will be back to see all that Delaware has to offer!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Connecticut #7
_
I know this seems like a dumb picture to represent a state, and it is, but I drove through Connecticut during the night and on very little sleep. I went through three different traffic accidents and so I wasn't impressed with this state with the short amount of time I was in Connecticut. I will have to go back to see something notable next time ;)

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Colorado #6
_
How do I pick a photo from a place I have lived in for over half of my life? It's hard! This is one of my favorite spots in Colorado Springs, even though it can be touristy at times, the beautiful Garden of the gods! It had just snowed the night before so a friend and I went on a drive and hike here. As you can see I am just about to JUMP! Just like life, sometimes you just have to JUMP!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

California #5
_
Right after I graduated high school I took a trip out to California, via the Amtrak train to visit my great aunt and explore! On one of my last transfers, before I got into Los Angeles, I sat by a sweet new friend, April. We made plans to go to Disney Land together later that week since it is an iconic thing to do in California! I have many photos of California since then, but being that this was my first time there, this is my California picture! How can it get any better with Micky Mouse!?

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Arkansas #4
_
Over the years I have watched by the TLC tv show Counting On; the Duggar family. When I knew my mom and I were taking a road trip to New Orleans and driving through Arkansas, I thought it would be fun to drive by their family house (pictured below). On the way out of town I found another Duggar house totally by accident! I was getting off the road to figure out the directions and when I saw it, I recognized it from the show. We also explored the towns of Rodgers and Fayetteville. We visited the Sam Walton museum and I went to a few thrift stores. I just so happen to see Amy Duggar/King, her mom Deanne and grandma Mary Duggar! It felt like small world ;)

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Arizona #3

_
I went to Arizona with my mom and sister during our American/Canada west-coast trip in 2003. We first drove up north to Canada, then south by the coast of Washington, Oregon, and California. We then visited family in California and attended a conference in San Francisco. While at the conference I met a new friend, Deborah, who lived in Arizona and suggested we should stop by if we were going through her area on our way back home. As it turned out, we were going right through her city and stayed a few nights! We stayed with her and her husband and enjoyed the HOT summer July heat by taking their boat out on the large lake near by. During our time on the lake Deborah and I decided we should do some cliff jumping! It was scary, fun and I got the most painful wedgie of my life! We estimated the cliff was apx. 75 feet high. Oh the memories!

Alaska #2
_
My sister and I in her last state to visit and on her 21st birthday. I went out to Iowa to visit my sister where she was living at the time and then she and I flew out from Des Moines. It was a long travel day as we went to Minneapolis, Seattle and then finally into the center (ish) of Alaska…Fairbanks. We arrived during the late summer fire season and so everything was hazy and smelt of burning forrest wood. That didn’t stop us, we went kayaking on the perfect day (to me). It was partly sunny when we started off, a light rain half way through with an bald eagle spotting and then the ended with a lots of paddle work to the finish line. We had to be back to the rental place by 4pm and the river was barely flowing most of the day therefor we took longer than expected.
We got back to the hotel, had a little nap, got cleaned up and then we had a wonderful dinner at the hotel restaurant that evening celebrating my sister’s 21st birthday!
Another high-light was going to the Denali National Park via a train. The sights were amazing and to get to the park in a train made it all the more memorable! I would highly recommend going through Alaska in a train, at least part of it.

Alabama #1
_
On this trip I wanted to be sure we drove through part of Alabama so I can say I’ve been there. But that turned out to be a bit difficult. We were on some windy back roads and it wasn’t clear if we had crossed the state line or not. Plus, my gps was having a hard time staying connected to the Wi-Fi out there. After driving around a bit we came to an “un-marked” town, so I decided to just go into a random shop and ask if I was in Alabama. I say random shop because, was it an repair shop, a convenient store or a barber shop? I don’t know but 2 older gentlemen sat in the most worn out chairs that seems to fit their frame perfectly from years of “just sitten’. I thought a simple question of “is this town in Alabama?” would be a simple answer. I was wrong. What came out was the thickest, most un-recognizable accent from one guys mouth that I had to say, “come again??” The 2nd and 3rd try proved to be no better, so I smiled with a nod and thanked them. I came back to the car with a confusing smile on my face. I still had no idea if fact we were in Alabama, so we drove on a little more to be sure. We even found a nicer abandoned home with a great look out point, which is where this photo was taken. What I will remember about my first time in Alabama is those two men and the thickest accent I’ve even heard, and I’ve been all over the world!

In 2015 I went on an International whirlwind trip...more like a journey for 2.5 months to 9 countries. I had some pretty epic moments! Naturally, I had some fun and inspiring photos!
_
I am doing a little personal project and 28 seems to be a good number.
I am sharing the TOP 28 photos from my trip which will be extremely hard, since I took thousands of photos. Also, I will share WHY I love each photo so much, the moment, the experience and the story behind it. ENJOY!

Day 28 of TOP 28 photos = Dublin, Ireland
_
It's hard to believe this is my last photo to share of my "TOP 28 photos" journey! All of this was about me moving into and sharing a creative space, being vulnerable and remembering my AMAZING trip! I can't wait for my next adventure! Thanks for coming along with me.

_
I like this photo for the "goth-ness", the cold-wet stones and the architecture. I didn't have many pictures that turned out, but I will be back again to take a proper tour and see Dublin in the daylight.

Day 27 of TOP 28 photos = Dublin, Ireland

_
Ireland was my very last stop on my way back to the USA. I had a little less than 24 hours in Dublin and although I didn't have much time to explore the area properly, I did go into the city and saw as much as I could.

_
My plane arrived late afternoon on one of the bumpiest landings I've ever experienced. I took a local bus into Dublin's city center. It was raining and dark by the time I arrived, yet I made the most of it by walking (of course) everywhere!
_
I tried taking jumping photos in front of the beautiful St. Patrick's church. It wasn't the easiest thing to do in the dark so I finally asked for help. I spotted these two guys taking pictures so I applied my "traveling alone-but I want a nice picture" technique. This is what I do:  I approach someone taking a selfie and offer to take their picture. If they trust me with their camera or phone, I can then ask for the favor in return, knowing they won't run off with my camera/phone etc! They turned out to be really nice brothers from Guatemala living in the US. We ended up chatting for quit awhile and then parted ways.
Thanks again to some wonderfulstrangers!

Day 26 of TOP 28 photos =London, England
_
After my time in Worthington, I spent a few days in Guildford, England. My sister was also a nanny in England for a wonderful family in London after her time in Amsterdam. I heard so much about them, so it was finally time to meet! What a sweet family!
_
The next day I took the train into London for a full day of the typical tourist spots. I had visited London in 2001 with my mom, so it was a wonderful reunion of sorts. I didn't take my camera with me, just my phone, which happened to die part way through the  day. Thankfully I was able to navigate my way around London and back to my host family's home with my memory and my good sense of direction. Kind of sounds like a story that happened to myduring my first trip to London!
_
London is such a lovely city and I had so many cool God moments. I will have to write a book about it someday!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Day 25 of TOP 28 photos =Buckinghamshire Gerrard Cross, England
_
The BEAUTIFUL Bulstode Castle. My friend Bethany had a few meetings there during my visit, so naturally she invited me to go with her. I was able to explore the grounds and once again, take tons for photos. One day I will own and live in a castle.

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Day 24 of TOP 28 photos =Worthington, England
_
After a few days in France, I took a night bus to England. When I arrived in London I connected with a friend for coffee whom I haven't seen in years. It was so great to see Kate, from Canada, in England!

_
That evening, I made my way on another bus south to Worthington, a port town in southern England. My good friend Bethany lives there, so it was great to see another familiar face and have fun in this seaside town. I was there for nearly a whole week. Bethany was packing up her flat to move back to Canada as her visa was coming to an end. I think we gave each other moral support!

Day 23 of TOP 28 photos =Paris, France
_
By mid morning I made my way to the Louvre museum. This museum truly needs several days (at minimum), to really appreciate and take it all in. At one point I took a break to rest outside on the lovely grounds. Interestingly, I felt really connected to my heart that day, which caused me to shed a few tears thinking of my dad. It was a beautiful day to remember him. *My dad had passed away a few months prior to this trip.

_
This photo was taken from inside the museum looking out, as the sun was setting that evening.

_
Yes, I did see the Mona Lisa. It's really small.

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Day 22 of TOP 28 photos =Paris, France
_
On my second full day in Paris I went to see the famous "Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile" and take a tour of  the Louvre museum.
_
This absolutely picturesque photo was taken on a side street just behind The Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile. It would be so ideal to rent a little car like the one in the photo and drive around the streets of Paris. Next time!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Day 21 of TOP 28 photos =Paris, France

_
After many hours at the Eiffel Tower I was ready to walk around this beautiful city. Since it was the beginning of the autumn season the leaves were turning colors and that made for some wonderful photos. Honestly, I could post SO many pictures of the few days I was in Paris. I really loved my time exploring this city, as I felt very creative and alive.
_
Revisiting Paris is my top pick for the near future. I will be touring more of France, not just Paris, next time...maybe even renting a car.

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Day 20 of TOP 28 photos =Paris, France
_
Why yes, another picture of the Eiffel Tower, and of me jumping! Apparently two of my favorite things, so why not combine them? This photo brings me so much happiness!
_
After waiting for the fog to depart, out came the sun and all the people too! I found a guy taking pictures, so I asked if he wouldn't mind taking a few jumping photos of me. I guess it worked.
Thank you stranger ❤️

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Day 19 of TOP 28 photos =Paris, France
_
As I mentioned before, I absolutely loved seeing the Eiffel Tower for the first time, especially when I got there early in the morning. I was able to explore and take SO many photos without the distraction of tourists. It was fun to watch an elderly man on his brisk, morning walk and doing his routine exercises. Also seeing the morning commuters who "get" to walk through this beautiful park everyday to work.
_
Out of all my photos from this morning, this is one of my favorites, because it speaks of a beautiful strength: to stand out even when things otherwise appear blurry.
_

Day 18 of TOP 28 photos =Paris, France
_
I booked another Mega bus from Munich, Germany to Paris, France. I traveled during the day, so I was able to see the country side along the way. It was so beautiful! When I arrived, I navigated my way through the city and found my Airbnb host home.
_
I decided to wake up early the next morning and head to the Eiffel Tower to watch the sun come up. The special part about that was, that when I arrived, practically no one was there. It felt like I was experiencing a private viewing. I took tons of pictures as I walked around this beautiful structure.
_
I didn't get to see the "sun-rise" I had been looking forward to, since it was a foggy morning, but it was even better!
I bought myself a hot latte', chocolate Nutella filled crêpe and sat down to watch the clouds "un-fold" the top of the Eiffel Tower just for me. It was magical! ☕️
_
P.S. I just may have lots more pictures of Paris to share in the days to come!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Day 17 of TOP 28 photos =Munich, Germany
_
Yes, another foggy, landscape photo. This was taken just across from the conference hall at the Prayer Global Gathering I was attending. Just beyond the two tress and a little hill in front, was a cute lake with so many ducks and geese. I could have pulled out a blanket and had a beautiful picnic there and called it a day... next time.
_
I head to a new country in my next photo, one of my favorite places. Any guesses where??

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Day 16 of TOP 28 photos =Munich, Germany
_
After spending time in Leipzig, I bought a Mega bus ticket for $15 and made my way down to Munich, Germany. I attended a Christian Global Gathering there (Watchmen for the Nations Ministry). I had met a wonderful Japanese/ Brazilian couple in Israel who mentioned that I should go if it worked out with my travel plans. I honestly had no real thought of going, but I kept the idea in my mind and added the details in my notes on my phone.
_
I stayed at a tiny Airbnb apartment and walked everyday through this beautiful park to the conference. This particular morning I was a bit late because I couldn't stop taking pictures that inspired me. I love fog and I love nature. A perfect,  combo! Plus, I ran into a group of Chinese going to the same conference and we ended up taking a bunch of pictures together. I don't speak Chinese, and non of them spoke English, so it was quite the experience!
_
I may just have a few more fog pictures to share on this 28 day Photo Journey!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Day 15 of TOP 28 photos = Countryside near Hra'dek nad Nisou, Czech Republic
_
Just another short drive from Poland and we were in the Czech Republic! Of course we didn't see any country welcome signs or border patrol once again. We drove through beautifully sleepy farm land, with a little fog rolling in...so beautiful!
Of course I would have loved to visit more of this country to get a better idea of the people and culture, but I'll just have to come back! I pretty much say that every time, don't I?
_
In Germany I got to know a sweet lady, Viera, who grew up in the Czech Republic. She says I must visit Brno and of course Prague! Who wants to go with me??

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Day 14 of TOP 28 photos = Sieniawka, Poland
_
After a full day in Herrnhut, Germany, I convinced my friend we should go to Poland since we were so close! She didn't bring her passport and we had no idea what the border crossing would be like. I figured if anything, she could stay on the German side and I would go across, quickly check it out and come back.
_
The road signs were hard to navigate, so we kept driving around. Finally we asked a random guy, "Is this Poland?" He gave us a nod with a look of, "silly travelers"!  We had made it to Poland and had no idea! No was no huge welcome sign, no border patrol or obvious indications we had crossed country lines. We finally found a sign, took pictures by it, and decided to drive to another country on our little road trip of adventures. Of course I want to come back and actually spend some time in this country and see the beautiful places I've heard about.
_
Any guesses where to next?

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Day 13 of TOP 28 photos = Herrnhut, Germany
_
My friend Doris and I went on a little road trip to Herrnhut, Germany. We also popped into a few countries nearby, but I will post those later.
_
This little town has so much Christian history. A small group of religious fugitives from Moravia settled on Count Ludwig von Zinzendorf's land. Together they established many things, such as night and day prayer that lasted over 100 years and the Daily Text prayer book that has been published since 1731. The Moravians influenced many, such as John and Charles Wesley and William Carey (missionary to India). Herrnhut is also where the Christmas Moravian Star was first created and produced. I remember my grandparents even having one! They we're of German decent, so it makes sense.

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Day 12 of TOP 28 photos = Leipzig, Germany
_
From Amsterdam, I took a train east across Germany to the city of Leipzig. Going on a train into Germany was such a wonderful experience, but yet I couldn't help but think of the hundred's of thousands of people that went to the concentration camps by train in World War II.
_
I stayed with a very dear friend, Doris, whom I had met back in Kansas City in 2009. She helped me tour her very beautiful city, where the famous Johan Sebastian Bach spent some time. This is a must see city!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Day 11 of TOP 28 photos = Haarlem, Netherlands (Holland)
_
The home of Corrie ten Boom was something I had always wanted to see in Haarlem, and it truly was one of my highlights on this whole trip. Corrie, her sister and father hid Jews during World War II in their home. The current owners have preserved the home and kept its original set up. I was able to go into the hiding space where they hid and protected Jews.
_
I took a bus from Amsterdam out to Haarlem for the day and it is a beautiful city. I actually had a hard time navigating my way to the museum on my GPS. If you know me, you know I have an internal GPS and rarely get lost. In fact, I find it entertaining to "try" to get lost. Yet, this was the one time I wanted to get straitto my destination since it was getting late. I finally found it and loved every minute seeing what life was like for the Corrie ten Boom family...true heroes!

Day 10 of TOP 28 photos = Amsterdam, Netherlands
_
This day was filled with exploring the city, visiting the Amsterdam House of Prayer, checking out the YWAM base and meeting up with some of my sister's friends. I kept it low key, since I still wasn't feeling 100% yet. The temperature had dropped so much the weekend I arrived and I had caught a cold. None the less, Amsterdam is busy, beautiful, clean, and full of young people.
_
Truth be told, I didn't take many photos in Holland. I wanted a break to just be in the moment and also I was dealing with  stuff; both physically (head cold) and emotionally.
One night I just needed a good long run, but silly me, I didn't pack running shoes or pants. *BIG* mistake. I will never do that again! I bought some cheap leggings and made do with my walking shoes. Then Iran...and ran....and ran... for who knows how many miles! I also might have danced here and there when I finally felt released from all that I was feeling! All in all, it was just what I needed that day.

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Day 9 of TOP 28 photos = Amsterdam, Netherlands
_
After a beautiful time in Italy, I flew into Eindhoven, Holland. It's funny the things that bring me some love when I'm needing a little comfort, because I started to feel somewhat sick on my flight to Holland. Low and behold I saw a Starbucks immediately when I got off my flight! ☕️ I had a yummy coffee and then took a bus to the train station. From there I made my connection north to Amsterdam. I stayed with my sister's friend during my visit. My sister had lived in Amsterdam as a nanny right after high school, so she had many connections for me which was wonderful! Feeling sick yet, I stayed in bed for 24 hours. It wasn't too long though before I got out and started to explore!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Day 8 of TOP 28 photos = Pisa, Italy
_

On my last day in Italy, I visited Pisa and the famous "Leaning Tower of Pisa". It rained most of the day, but it didn't matter to me because there stood the tower in all of it's leaning glory! That evening while exploring, I kept my head phones on to block out the noise and took tons of pictures. I was in another world, my own little world, and just what I needed that day.
_
I realized there was a bit of a mix up after I booked my next flight set to depart early the morning. The trains/ buses stop running around 11pm in Viareggio where I was staying, and the first available train/bus in the morning to the airport was too late, which meant missing my flight. So, the day before my flight, I took a train into Pisa, left my luggage checked at the train station while I went exploring late into the evening. My plan was to take the last train from Pisa to the airport and hang out at my gate, during the night, until my flight the next morning, but my plan failed... sorta. I did not know the airport closed from mid-night to 4am. Since I didn't want to get a hotel for just a few hours, I spent my time outside of the small Pisa airport praying, singing and reading my Bible. Good thing I had been on the prayer night-watch at IHOP-KC years ago! I was safe, productive and enjoying night life in an adventures way!
_
If you've read this far, any guesses to what country or city I'm off to next?!

Day 7 of TOP 28 photos = Viareggio, Italy
_
From my beautiful hill top guest villa near Florence, I made my way down to the sea side town of Viareggio. The weather was perfectly warm during my visit. I had use of a bike at the guest house, so I rode everywhere exploring, making stops to eat ice cream, and sitting on the beach watching the boats sail by.
_
Once again, I booked a guest house that I ended up having all to myself. It was an easy 10 minute bike ride from the ocean. One of my favorite days was filled with sitting by the water, going grocery shopping, and making a homemade "Italian" dinner. I had no problem picking out fresh bread at a local bakery, even though I didn't know how to speak italian. Of course I was hoping I picked out all the correct items at the market, but I prepared quite a yummy and romantic dinner for one! It all turned out wonderfully. This day was pretty amazing!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Day 6 of TOP 28 photos = Florence, Italy (town of Carmignanelle)
_
After my time in Rome, I was ready for some peace and quiet. I took a train from Rome to Florence and then a bus up through the hills to the quaint town of Carmiganelle. This area has magnificent views of the Florence/Prato/Pistoia valley. I was the only one staying in the guest villa, which was just the best after being in a hostel in Rome. Plus, it rained the first few days I was there, which was perfect for me! I napped, read books and wrote on postcards to send back home. I took my time to walk around the town and neighboring areas, making many stops along the way for a relaxing hotcappuccino. ☕️
_
One thing I will say about Italy, it's a country you want to experience WITH someone. There are so many things to love about this country; food, people, architect, country side and so much more, but experiencing it alone was just not right for me. With Italy, you "FEEL" it with someone you love...a spouse, best friend or family member. I will be back for sure, but next time, not alone!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Day 5 of TOP 28 photos = Rome, Italy
_
Rome was my first stop after being in Israel for about three weeks. It was the only city I had "planned out" on my trip. The rest of my travels were decided as I went along. One of the best ways to travel in my opinion!
_
To say Rome is an impressive city is an understatement! The quote is most definitely true, "Rome was not built in a day!" I stayed 3 nights in a beautiful and safe women's hostel. It was recommend to me by a lady I met during my time in Israel. From the hostel,  I walked everywhere and explored nearly everything! After a few days though, I was on over load with how much there was see and do in this historic city. Of course I didn't actually see everything there is to see in the city, that's impossible!

I will be coming back for sure!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Day 4 of TOP 28 photos = Jerusalem, Israel
_
I really love this photo for many of the same reasons in my last post/ story. Both photos we're taken on the same day, with the same group I was touring with. Since I had been to many of these sites before, I chose to look from a different angle this time around, by watching those who were watching our group. Our tour group had stopped for an impromptu worship and prayer session near the Jaffa Gate. I'm sure it wasn't the first time, nor will it be the last, that these local guys see spontaneous worship happen near this gate! Come on, it's Israel! Nevertheless, I was intrigued as they were watching our group. I wondered what they might be thinking, and what they could be saying to each other. That, I will never know.
I try to look like a local as much as possible when traveling so I can capture moments like these. That doesn't always happen. I'm a blonde, but you would be surprised what a head scarf and a little confidence can do!

Jennifer Kaye xoxo

Day 3 of TOP 28 = Jerusalem, Israel.
_
I really enjoy watching people. Many times I actually like to watch people who are watching other people! It's quite enjoyable and also very insightful. I like to imagine what they see in others, how they might be interpreting a situation based on their own perspectives.  You should watch their body language and eyes, because it says so much!
_
Hundreds of us in my groupwere sightseeing at many typical, yet very special, tourist spots in the Old City (Jerusalem). Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good tour, but it doesn't take me long before I start to wander off from the group. I noticed this lady in the photo while at a very busy spot. This sweet lady seems to be calm, reflective, possibly reading and alone. What you don't see are the hundreds, possibly thousands,of people below the frame of the photo.
She is watching people and I am watching her.

Day 2 of TOP 28 photos = Jerusalem, Israel.
_
1st photo: These two little boys were so funny! They kept asking for shekels ($). My New Zealand friend took this picture.
2nd photo: Brother Yun speaking at the Garden Tomb.
_
I love to explore and, at moments, be alone. I like to connect with God and myself this way. There are many times I desire to observe things inconspicuously. Being with a group or even a few people can make that hard to do. Yet being alone can also leave me exposed, needing to defend myself and trying to figure out how to navigate a situation if something should go wrong. Seven years ago I walked around alone in Israel (not suggested or advised, might I add), and had some wonderful as well as not so wonderful experiences. Over the years, I had allowed fear to fill that memories and I wanted to go back to a few places to confirm that those fears no longer were controlling me. And because of God, I was free!
_
On this day I woke up early and walked 1- 2 hours across the city, first to confront an area of past pain and then continued on to the Garden Tomb where Brother Yun was speaking that morning. I heard him speak at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City 7 years prior (the same place where God spoke to my heart that He wanted me to go to Israel on my first trip).
Afterwards, I ran into my friend from New Zealand. He is Jewish.  He wanted to walk through the city, but not alone. He went on to shared with me some of his own personal hardships. I was hesitant to say yes at first, because today was the day I was working on areas of my past pain. However, I decided to say yes, so he tagged along with me for the day since I knew my way around. Together we walked through our pain.  I was surprised he needed me. What he didn't know was, I needed him. That day I realized there are many hard places in life, but we don't always have to walk through them alone. I was so grateful for his friendship, his presence, for him being a man and his vulnerability. Healing is a powerful experience, esp. in the city of Jerusalem!

_
PS, if you want to see a city, walk! You see, smell and feel so many new wonderful things. Plus, you can walk off all the extra yummy foods!

Day 1 of TOP 28 photos = Tel Aviv/ Jaffa, Israel.
_
Seven years ago I visited Israel and when I left, I knew I would be back. That desire was now being fulfilled, I went back the year of 2015! I made many new connections, reconnected with old friends and faced some "lingering" fears from my first trip to Israel. Although a lot had changed in my life from the past seven years, emotionally and spiritually, I felt the need to walk though some of my past painful and hard events from that trip with God by my side. He showed an overflowing LOVE towards me and those past situations. I can now look at it all with love and not pain. More on that later.
_
On this particular morning, I got up before the sunrise and actually found a place that was open. I got a hot cappuccino and walked towards the Mediterranean Sea. I walked so much that day and had a great time exploring! I even tried getting lost, but that never works :-)
